However, the streets were crowded with cars, and the taxi slowly made its way to the airport through the traffic. They arrived at the airport very late, got stuck at a checkpoint for a while, and had to run all the way to the gate to catch their plane. Out of breath, they finally reached the gate. Before modern zoos, there were small collections of animals called menageries. In most menageries, animals were kept in small dirty cages. However, in modern zoos, animals are kept in habitats(栖息地) that look like    81    areas.

This change did not take place all at once. For many years, the largest and most modern zoos kept animals in cages. Some zoos still keep animals caged. Often, newspapers write articles about this. They speak out    82    zoos for the way the animals are treated.

Long ago, the purpose of zoos was to let people see rare animals from distant places that most people could never visit. But now there are many other    83   for keeping animals in zoos. For example, many animal species(物种) are in danger. Some animals live only in limited places. Zoologists try to breed(繁殖) some of them and return the species to its native habitat.

At one time, hunters caught and sold animals to zoos that needed them. This still occurs today. But now, zoos often sell their animals to other zoos.   84   , many countries now have laws that doesn't allow people to catch or kill wild animals. So, the animals you see in the zoo may never have lived in the wild. They probably were born and raised in zoos.

People who    85    animal rights don't like the display of animals in zoos. But other people feel that zoos care for and protect the animals. They feel that this is why many exotic species are still alive today.

In the middle of the 1800s, France was considered the most important place in the world for art. One reason for that was the Academy, a government organization with some strict r  86    about art. It decided what could and could not be art. In order to be accepted by the Academy, an artist had to be very talented. Artists also had to paint exactly the way the Academy wanted them to. A brave group of painters challenged(挑战) these ideas and changed art f  87   .

Each year, the Academy had an exhibition of the art they had decided was the best. In 1864, a group of artists became a  88    because they didn't get into the show. They felt that their paintings were not bad; the paintings were just different. After complaining to the government, these artists were given their own show.

The Academy thought all art should look realistic(逼真). But these artists were more interested in trying to show movement and the bright colors of daylight. In their opinion, it was more real to show these than it was to paint a scene(场景) which was as s  89    as a photo. It was also more interesting to show all of the different colours when light hits an object like water.

By 1874, many different artists were painting in this new style, including Claude Monet. One of his paintings had the title, Impression: sunrise. A critic(评论家) h  90   these new artists. He used Monet's title to make fun of these painters by calling them "impressionists(印象派)", meaning that they didn't make real paintings. The critics who liked these artists thought the word was just right. They began to use it happily. They thought it was more important to paint h  91    they saw things instead of just what they saw. Other artists around the world felt that they could have this freedom as well. Because of the impressionists, the art w  92    was never the same.

    D. Answer the questions(根据短文内容回答下列问题): ( 12分)

The little village of Milford in Derbyshire is usually quiet and peaceful and there is almost no crime. However, all this changed in the summer of 1995, when the Potter family moved into No. 16 Church Lane. There was Mr and Mrs Potter, their six children, aged between three and twenty-two, three dogs, several cats and two goats(山羊). The Potter family were noisy: the children played loud music day and night and the animals were never quiet.

Dorothy Price lived next door to the Potters. She was an elderly woman who had lived in Milford all her life. At first, the noise didn't disturb her and she told other neighbours that the Potters seemed to be a pleasant family who were always friendly. But as time went by and the noise got worse, Dorothy started to get very upset.

One day, she complained to Mrs Potter that the goats had been making a noise all night and had kept her awake. On another occasion, she told Mr Potter to stop running his car engine on Sunday mornings because she couldn't hear her favourite radio programme. A week later, she asked the Potters to stop their dogs from jumping into her garden and making a mess(乱糟糟) in the flower beds. Nothing changed and things went from bad to worse.

Dorothy Price decided it was time for action. One night, she went into the Potter's garden and gave sleeping pills(药片) to the dogs and goats. For once, she had a peaceful night's sleep, but the following morning all the animals were still asleep.

The Potters called the police. When the police officer arrived, Mr Potter told him that Dorothy Price had tried to poison(毒死) his animals the night before and that she was always complaining about his family. Just then, Dorothy appeared at her front door. "The Potters have caused nothing but trouble since they moved in," she said to the police officer. "I'm an animal lover myself, but the way the Potters treat their animals is cruel." She told him that she had given the animals sleeping pills and said that she was sorry, but in the end she had had no choice; it was the only way she could get a good night's sleep.

    93. Where did both the Potters and Dorothy Price live?

    94. How old was Mr and Mrs Potter's eldest child?

    95. What did Dorothy Price like to do on Sunday mornings?

    96. Did it have any effect for Dorothy Price to complain to the Potters?

    97. Why didn't the Potters' animals make noise one morning?

    98. What do you think of the way Dorothy Price dealt with the noisy neighbour? Why?
