　　When I was about 12 years old, I had an enemy. A girl liked to tell me about my shortcomings (缺点): I was very short; I wasn't a good student; I talked too much; I was too proud, and so on. I would become very angry and run to my father with tears (眼泪) in my eyes.

　　One bad day, he was listening to me quietly, and asked: "Are the things that she said true or not? Now you have that girl's opinion. Go and make a list of everything that she said and mark those that are true. Pay no attention to the other things."

　　I made the list and found that about half of the things were true. Some of them I couldn't change, like being very short, but a good number of them I could. For the first time, I could see myself clearly.

Don't close your ears in anger (生气). There are many people in the world who think that they know you. Listen to all of them, but hear only the truth and do what you think is right."
